There are no traditional quests that require you to speak to NPCs to accept or complete them instead, you can simply go from event to event, helping the people of Tyria as you see fit. While there is some static content, in the form of “hearts” that you can complete once for NPCs, most of the game revolves around dynamic events, which spring up in the world at various times and often require large groups of players to complete. The heart of Guild Wars 2 is its open-world content. So there are a decent amount of things missing for a f2p account, mainly to prevent people from exploiting features in-game. Different classes have ways to access other skills, and most classes have the ability to swap out weapons, so you’ll still have some variety in exactly what tools you can bring to each fight.

They’re essentially an extended trial account.

Each class has remarkable versatility, allowing it to fill a number of roles in a party and reducing the need for a full MMO-style “trinity.” Characters have limited skill bars of 10 slots the first five are determined by your weapon and the second five by skills that you choose: a healing skill, three utility skills, and an elite skill. Free accounts have only 2 char slots, restrictions on chat/whisper/mail, can’t access guild banks, and have trading post restrictions, as well as other things. You’ll choose from among the five races of Tyria – human, norn, charr, sylvari, and asura – and one of several classes. It also features PvP, both open-world and instanced, dungeons, raiding, storytelling, and everything else you’d expect in a full-featured massively multiplayer online RPG. Building on that first game’s guiding principles, it offers a huge world to explore, populated with dynamic events that can start at any time and provide excellent variety in gameplay. I’m just wondering if perhaps character slots should get knocked down to the same price range as bag and bank slots.Guild Wars 2 is a free-to-play open-world MMORPG, the follow-up to ArenaNet’s popular Guild Wars.

I’m glad I have both the chance to play with more of my friends and to try out professions I don’t want to dedicate a main account spot to. so i purchased guild wars 2 when it came out, but now it is free to play, so i was wondering if there are any differences between my account, that doesn’t have hot or pof, and the free to play accounts. Judging by the response, I suppose most people would just think I’m being cheap. I just haven’t caught a sale on them this whole time, but I’m still hopeful they’ll crop up in the sale. If character slots get a discount or package deal down to a price I’m actually willing to pay for them during the anniversary sale, I probably actually WILL buy them. I’ve voted with my wallet and not bought any for the year I’ve been playing this game. I don’t think I’m being too “whiny” about it, I just don’t think the convenience of a character slot is worth 800 gems.

Now I can do so for free with some small inconveniences instead of with money. Personally, I’ve been wanting to try out all of the classes, but I was not willing to pay the asked price for the privilege of doing so. And using free accounts for those classes is still much more convenient than keeping my 5th character slot open and running through the opening instance to jump into pvp with a level 2 character that I have to remake every time. A free account can currently be upgraded by purchasing the Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns expansion or the Guild. No I would not enjoy the free account restrictions and the loss of access to my skins and such.īut neither would I enjoy paying so much money to try out more character classes.Įspecially for PVP, the restrictions barely make a difference so I can enjoy playing extra classes there without spending money.
